HOOKER are a three piece that make a sound so powerful I was looking for an extra guitarist or two. HOOKER play pretty much an out and out punk sound but manages to sound more rock than punk and with vocals that were astounding. Every song had a feel to it that made you really listen which did not seem to go with the rawness of the beat and base. HOOKER managed to sound so different from others without seeming to do anything in particular that made them stand out, apart from the vocals that just shook me to the bone with every song. A deep base and simple chords were the order of the day and the simplicity was great with drums pushing the pace further and further into primeaval level. If they were the only band to play this evening then I already had my fivers worth. Find out when you can have the pleasure of their company by viewing the website: http://www.hookerstuff.com

A little update for you. We've just finished our two week tour with Katastrophy Wife which was amazing. Kat and the boys rocked. There was even talk of Kat and I starting a band together. It was a half serious, half joking conversation. We did end up doing a duet for the last song of their set so you never know!
We're hoping to plan another tour for late summer (although we have no idea of dates and who with). If that fails, we will be trying to do more gigs outside of Manchester.
We also have a track on the Ladyfest 2003 album. Unfortunately it is a track from the (Hooker) mini album but the album rocks anyway. We will be playing Ladyfest Bristol and Ladyfest Manchester. We haven't had the dates confirmed as yet.

part of a review from fake diy :

"Girls make shit band members - all they're good for is tits and ass, right?

Thank God that illusion went out the window years ago, but if there were any doubts left, this put the final nail in the coffin. A benefit gig for Ladyfest Manchester, it showed us guys we're probably just a bit boring.

....Hooker then. How a band this good don't have a CD out bewilders us. The Yeah Yeah Yeahs can go home now - Karen O... your one trick pony voice has had its day already, image counts for nothing in this scene. Hooker, you see, feature a lead vocalist with the most amazing voice Fake DIY has ever heard. Imagine Skin's power, crossed with PJ Harvey and the pure sex of Shirley Manson. A voice that covers every dynamic, every emotion, every volume... we honestly can't rave about it enough. On top of that the songs are, quite simply, wonderful. This is one band that has to be seen to be believed - do it!"
